Let’s face it. Choosing the right home for your family is one of your most important decisions.
Redfish Point Realty is located on Cape Coral not by chance but through history. These are our roots, this is where it all started right here on Redfish Point. In the early 1900's folks got tired of the "big city life" in Fort Myers and moved west. The government granted those people tracks of land, that they could own and build homes, homes were built and farming began. Our Town was born.
Life on REDFISH POINT, as the area was called then, got its name from the great REDFISH that inhabited the shores. REDFISH, Red Snapper and Tarpon Snook, were all here and people came from all around to fish these waters. Redfish Point started to grow, slowly at first and for the next fifty years. Two brothers from Baltimore, Maryland got an idea they wanted to find property in the State of Florida to develop. They flew over Southwest Florida for about two weeks until they flew over Redfish Point Peninsula. It is said that Leonard Rosen tossed some coins out of the window of the airplane and said, "your're not going to know what hit you". That was the end of 1957. Development began right away in 1958.
The Rosen Brothers were intent on developing 103 square miles of land into a self contained, pre-platted, planned community, and what a plan it was. Sunshine, beaches, shopping, recreation, everything a person could want and need would be taken care of in Cape Coral. Redfish Point got a name change to be more appealing to Cape Coral. They would carve out as many or more canals as Venice, Italy. The Cape became known as the "Waterfront Wonderland" and surpassed every other city in the world with over 400 miles of canals to build waterfront homes at premium prices for the time.
The Rosen's were very successful at marketing their Gulf American Land Corporation through mass mailings and personal visits from sales staff in target markets. Model homes were given away as prizes on game shows, The Price is Right and Concentration. Many celebrities of the day visited our town to show how glamorous it would be to live here. Bob Hope golfed our courses, Anita Bryant and Hugh Downs were shown enjoying all there was to offer along with their families. It was glamorous yet family oriented. Nothing has changed over the years with respect to our image.
It was a thrilling time for Cape Coral and the land boom was off and running. Cape Coral was no longer just the largest "planned residential development" in the United States, it was the largest, fully functioning city in Southwest Florida. In 1970 The City of Cape Coral was born. We are a very young city with all the growing pains out of the way.
We at REDFISH POINT REALTY are proud to be from Cape Coral and pride ourselves in helping every family find a home that perfectly fits their needs. Servicing the Southwest Florida area, we want to make our hometown your hometown.
